Most people are aware of risks that toys pose to kids in terms of choking on some small piece or being hurt by sharp edges. But the risks do not simply stop here. Toys might seem one of those innocuous little things, till one is aware of the scary reports of possibility of them being a source of toxic chemicals. It was shocking to think of children being poisoned while playing. The unfortunate reality is that the toy industry is characterized by cut throat competition. Ever on the look out to cut prices, compromise often comes in terms of low cost and often toxic raw materials further compounded by inadequate testing for safety standards. This article describes the various harmful effect of chemicals used in manufacturing toys. It also describes the regulation and legislation concerned and its implication.
