Determination of the Attitudes of Akşehir Health High School Students Concerning Organ Donation

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Purpose: This study was carried out in an attempt to determine the knowledge and attitudes of Selçuk University, Akşehir Health High School students concerning organ donation.
Instrument and Method: The population of the research which was carried out within a definitive type is consisted of the students (N:181) receiving education at Selçuk University Akşehir Health High School. No sampling was chosen in the research and all the students who accepted the research were included within the research after obtaining the required written permission from the school management (N:170). The data of the research were assessed on the SPSS for Windows 10.0 program.
Findings: 170 students participated in the study whose ages range between 18-23. 17,6% of the students are male and 82,4% of them are female students. 98,8% of the students consider the organ donation significant. However, 94,7% of the students have not donated organ yet. While 86,5% of the students are aware of the organ donation, 14,5% of them do not have knowledge of the organ donation. The students who are aware of the organ donation have obtained 48,2% of these knowledge from radio and television. While 51,8% of the students consider to donate their organs, 40,6% of them are undecided concerning the organ donation. 41,2% of the students who consider to donate their organs believe that organ donation is effective in life saving. 2,4% of the students who do not consider to donate their organs do not want them their dead bodies to be interfered. 55,3% of the students do not know to which institution to apply in order to donate their organs.
Conclusion: The students are supposed to be constantly trained about organ donation.
