Abstract | | | | Objective: To determine the response to casting of Ponseti technique in children presenting with idiopathic congenital talipes equines varus.
Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out at Department of Orthopedics and Trauma, Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. It included 164 children with idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus A convenient sampling technique was used. Ponseti technique was used for the treatment. Plaster cast was applied to the neonate’s feet as early as possible upon presentation. The final Pirani score was calculated after 6 weeks of follow up. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.
Results: Out of 164 patients, 108(66%) children were in age range 1-14 days and 56(34%) were in age range 15-28 days. Out of 164 neonates, 100(61%) children were male while 64(39%) were female. Ponseti technique was found effective among 157(96%) children in different sites of its correction of deformity.
Conclusion: Casting with ponseti technique was found effective in 96% children presenting with idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus determined by pirani scoring.
