Design Analysis and Implementation of Microcontroller Based Infrared Object Counter

A. A. Okandeji.

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to design and construct a microcontroller based infrared object counter. The microcontroller has been programmed with some instruction sets to increment or decrement the counting on the seven-segment display based on a voltage level compared with a reference preset voltage. The difference between the entry and exit movement is also displayed on the seven-segment display. The comparator integrated circuit (IC) (Quad 339) sends a high or low voltage to the microcontroller (based on a preset value). The microcontroller then acts on it based on the program written and embedded into it. Results obtained agreed with the analytical expectations, thereby confirming the efficiency/effectiveness of the microcontroller based infrared object counter.

Key words: microcontroller, seven-segment display, comparator IC, infrared.
