The diagnosis and management of chronic migraine: a brief review
Fatmah Hasan Maimani, Rahaf Hamad Alahmadi.
Abstract
Migraine is a headache disabling disorder; it is globally underdiagnosed and undertreated. The current study aimed at reviewing the diagnosis and management of chronic migraine. The online databases PubMed and Google Scholar were used to perform a literature search for publications published between 2014 and 2017, without any date or language restrictions. We used a combination of relevant search terms "chronic migraine, prevalence, risk factors, management, treatment, diagnosis." We independently identified publications and
systematically screened titles, abstracts, and full texts of the collected publications. Among 30 articles initially selected based on the title and abstract, 23 articles were excluded. Finally, seven articles were selected and included in the review. The review summarizes that careful history taking is essential in the diagnosis of chronic migraine and it can be differentiated from other types, whereas management requires further investigations.
scite shows how a scientific paper has been cited by providing the context of the citation, a classification describing whether it supports, mentions, or contrasts the cited claim, and a label indicating in which section the citation was made.
