OBJECTIVE:
TocomparetheefficacyofParavertebralblock(PVB)versusQuadratusLumborum
block(QLB)forpostoperativeanalgesiafollowingPercutaneousNephrolithomy(PCNL)
surgeries.
MATERIALSANDMETHODS:
ItisaProspectiverandomizedcontrolledsingleblindedstudy.60patientspostedfor
PCNLsurgerieswererandomlyallocatedintotwoequalgroupsof30each.
•GroupP(30)receivedthoracicparavertebralblock(T9-T10,T10-T11,T11-T12)with15
mlof0.25%Levobupivacaineand10mcgDexmedetomidine.(5mlateachlevel).
•GroupQ(30)receivedQuadratuslumborum blockwith25mlof0.25%Levobupivacaine
and10mcgDexmedetomidine.
RESULTS:
Age,ASAgrading,anddurationofsurgerybetweenthetwogroupswerecomparable
betweentwogroups.
•Calculiposition(mostofthestoneswereintheuppercalyx)andsize,accesstractand
successratewerecomparablebetweenthetwogroups.
CONCLUSION:
AlthoughParavertebralBlockprovidessuperioranalgesiaforPCNLsurgeries,owingto
itsmultipleinjections,QuadratusLumborum Blockappearstobeanalternatechoicefor
Postoperativeanalgesiainrenalandabdominalsurgerieswithitswiderdermatomal
distributionandsingleinjection
