Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths, second to lung cancer. Breast cancer is a global health problem, with more than one million new cases diagnosed world wise each year. Breast cancer incidence decreased from 1999 to 2006 by approximately 2% per year. The decrease was attributed to a reduction in the use of HRT and the reduction in the use of screening mammography. Survival rates in women with breast cancer have steadily improved over the last several decades, with 5- year survival rates of 63% in the early 1960s to 90% during 1995-2005. The decreased mortality in breast cancer is mainly due to early detection a decreased incidence and improvements in therapy. The current treatment is guided by pathology, staging and better understanding of breast cancer biology
