During the current investigation, a total of 100 specimens of the greater lizardfish Saurida tumbil was collected during February 2016 and March 2017 from the coasts of Hurghada City at the Gulf of Suez, Red Sea, Egypt. The collected fish samples were dissected and examined for the presence of helminth parasites. The recovered parasite species were collected and identified by light microscopy. Twenty nine out of 100 (29.0%) fish specimens were found to be naturally infected with two trematode parasites belonging to two different genera within family Hemiuridae. The present study recorded one new parasite species, namely Hemiurus sp. and re-described the other species, Gonocerca phycidis, to clarify the measurements of some of its body parts. We revealed morphological and morphometric differences between the present and other related, previously described species. The present study represents the first and second report of the genera Gonocerca and Hemiurus, respectively, infecting a fish from the Red Sea, Egypt. Future studies are required to elucidate the advanced molecular characteristics of these species.
