Exploring the issues relating to Freedom of Press in Pakistan: From journalists’ perspective

Abstract

Freedom of expression is the most crucial element for the media in twenty first century. Historically, it was noted that there were number of rules and regulations implemented to curtail the freedom of press in Pakistan. The present study aims to explore the challenges relating to press freedom in Pakistan. For this reason, interviews were conducted from ten Pakistani journalists. They had prolonged experience in the field of journalism. The study found that the media in Pakistan had to face many pressures from media ownership, administration, pressure groups, government, political parties and self-censorship.
