The Science and Art of Managing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with New Medicines.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an age-old and common disease. Around 5th century BC, it has been described by the Indian Surgeon, Sushruta. In his work Samhita, Sushrutaidentified diabetes as madhumeha (honey-like urine) and pointed out to the sweet taste of the urine, its sticky feeling to the touch and its ability to attract the ants. Sushruta further identified that diabetes affects primarily the rich people and is related to the excessive food consumption.Yet, even today, we do not understand it well. The Global Report on Diabetes released by World Health Organization.
