Knowledge, attitude and perception of young athletes towards prevention of sports injuries

Abstract

Objective: To determine the knowledge, attitude and perception of athletes towards the prevention of sports injuries.
Methodology: This cross sectional study included 70 athletes selected with non-probability purposive sampling technique. The data were collected from the sports club of University of Lahore, University of Central Punjab, University of Management and Technology, University of Education and University of South Asia. Self-administered modified study tool knowledge scale and attitude scale was used. Data were analyzed in SPSS version 21.
Results: Out of 70 athletes, 54.3% were male and 45.7% female. Mean age was 22.07 years (range 18-29). Majority (62.9%) had good injury prevention knowledge (p=0.03) as well as positive attitude (in 54.3% athletes with p=0.47). Most university athletes (50%) perceived that for sports injuries prevention, protective devices must be used during any and all type of exercises (p=0.000).
Conclusion: Majority of athletes had good knowledge and positive attitude towards sports injuries prevention. Most of athletes perceived that to prevent sports injuries protective devices must be used during all exercises and sports.
