Abstract
Objective: To assess the quality of life in burn injury patients and to identify the risk factors which lead to low quality of life in them.
Methodology: This cross sectional study was conducted at burns institutes, clinics and hospitals and 100 patients were selected through non-probability convenient sampling technique. Sample size was calculated using open-Epi. We required n=95 samples for this study. Data were collected from June to November 2017 using Quality of life (QOLs) standardized tool. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.0.
Results: Mean age of patients was 27 years. 64% of participants had burn injury as a result of incident and 40% due to electrical burn injury. Out of 100, 14% have terrible relationship with close friends, 16% were unhappy, 10% were dissatisfied, and 4% were pleased. There was no significant relation with health, physical fitness and digressive activity. Most commonly area affected by burn was joint surface area. Moderate number of participants returned to their work after burn injury. Most had burn injury of more than 20% and most had 2nd degree burn injury.
Conclusion: Quality of life was badly affected in burn injury patient. Male were more frequent victim of burn injury than female. The most common cause of burn injury observed in this study was electrical burn injury.
