Abstract

Abstract: Yellow fever is a zoonotic disease caused by an Arbo virus it affects principally Monkeys and other vertebrates in tropical America and Africa transmitted to man by certain culex mosquitoes. Educating the people regarding the cause, transmission and prevention of yellow fever in their own local language will impart a certain level of knowledge about this communicable disease. Global surveillance of epidemic prone infection disease - yellow fever (2016) reported that number of epidemics and the number of people infected with yellow fever have increased over the two decades and yellow fever is now a serious public
health problem. Objective: The study was to assess the level of knowledge on prevention of yellow fever among adults and to find out the association between the level of knowledge on prevention of yellow fever among adults with their socio demographic variables. Materials and Methods: A quantitative research approach and non-experimental descriptive design was adopted for this study. The study was conducted in Kamashiknagar, Nellore. The sample for the present study was 50 adults. Non probability convenience sampling technique was adopted for this study. A structured questionnaire was used to assess the level of knowledge on prevention of yellow fever and it was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Shows that level of knowledge on prevention of yellow fever among 50 adults were 34(68%) had D grade. Mean value of yellow fever among adults were7.82 and the standard deviation was 2.532.There was a significant association between the level of knowledge with their socio demographic variables such as occupational status and religion and was no significant association with age, gender, educational status, type of family at p=0.05. The study findings concluded that most of the adults had ‘D’34(68%) grade
knowledge level on prevention of yellow fever. Hence it is evident that more attention has to furnish in this aspect and a need to follow proper immunization, controlling of mosquito breeding and public awareness on yellow fever can be enhanced by conducting seminars, slideshow and videos.
