A study to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching program on knowledge of safety precautions among senior citizens of selected old age homes,Tirupati, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh.

Abstract

Abstract: Provision of health care for older adults also comes with the question of how health care providers are going to give quality health care for older population. Aging is normal with predictable physical and behavioral changes that occur in all achieve certain chronological milestones. Objectives: 1. To assess the knowledge regarding safety precautions in old age homes among senior citizens in pre-test in interventional and control group. 2. To assess the knowledge regarding safety precautions in old age homes in senior citizens in post-test in interventional and control group. 3. To compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge levels regarding safety precautions in old age homes among senior citizens in interventional and control group. 4. To associate the demographic variables of selected senior citizens in interventional and control group with the post-test knowledge regarding safety precautions. Null Hypothesis H01: There is no significant difference in the pre-test and post-test knowledge of interventional group H02: There is no significant difference in the pretest
and post-test knowledge of control group. H03: There is no significant difference of post-test knowledge in between interventional and control group. H04: There is no significant association of post-test knowledge regarding safety precautions with interventional group among senior citizens. H05: There is no significant association of post–test knowledge regarding with control group among senior citizens. Materials and Method: Quasi experimental, pretest Posttest control group design was adapted to study 40 senior citizens where selected through purposive sampling techniques. Result: Comparison of post - test knowledge in between interventional and control group, post mean value in interventional group was 2.3500 and control post-test mean value in was 1.7500 and interventional post –test S.D was 0.81273 and the control post- test S.D was 0.63867. The‘t’ value obtained‘t’ value was 19 (table value 2.449) which is highly significant at 0.01 level. Hence it is proved that planned teaching improves the knowledge about safety precautions among senior citizens. Conclusion: The study finding indicates that planned teaching improves the knowledge about safety precautions among senior
citizens.
