SYNTHESIS, ANTICANCER and ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES of SOME 4-THIOXO-THIAZOLIDIN-2-ONES

Chulovska Z., Drapak I., Chaban T., Ogurtsov V., Chaban I.,Matiychuk V.

Abstract

The synthesis of some 4-thioxothiazolidin-2-ones based on the azo coupling reaction was carried out. Obtained substance structures were confirmed by means of 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Newly synthesized compounds were selected by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Developmental Therapeutic Program for the in vitro cell line screening to explore their anticancer activity. The antioxidant activity of the synthesized compounds was measured in vitro on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals by means of the scavenging effect method. Anticancer and antioxidant activities among 5-(aryl-hydrazono)-4-thioxothiazolidin-2-ones were idenfied for the first time.

Key words: 4-thioxothiazolidin-2-ones; Anticancer activity; Antioxidant activity; Azo coupling; Organic synthesis
