The association between bactibilia and wound infection after laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Background: Bile can be infected in case of gallstones, and may be related to develop wound infection following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC).
Aim: To investigate the association between positive bile culture and wound infection in patients undergoing LC.
Methods: A total of 704 patients who underwent LC were included in the study. All patients were classified as patients with a negative bile culture (Group 1) and those with a positive bile culture (Group 2). The two groups were compared each other in terms of clinicopathological characteristisc and development of wound infection.
Results: Positive bile culture was found in 151 (21.4%) cases. In logistic regression analysis, advanced age, preoperative ERCP, and presence of acute cholecystitis were the independent risk factors for positive bile culture (p
