There is an increasing interest in qualitative research today, with the critique that research in psychiatry is largely based on quantitative methodology and that qualitative methodology is not preferred. The aim of qualitative research is to understand and represent the experiences and actions in the situations in which people experience and live. In this study, a literature review was conducted to determine the benefits of qualitative research in psychiatry and, by taking into consideration the dominant point of view of the use of qualitative research in the literature; methodological contributions, gender, stigmatization, daily life, culture, implementation and mental health policy headings were formed . In the conclusion section, service delivery in psychiatry field, patient physician relationship and the contribution of qualitative research in consideration of methodological discussions in 21st century were evaluated.
