The Evaluation of the İnternet and Computer Utilization by Nutrition and Dietetic Students

Abstract

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to determine the status of computer and Internet using and the factors affecting use of internet in nutrition and dietetics students.
METHODS: This study was carried out in Hacettepe University School of Health Technology, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Turkey. Applying questionnaires under observation collected the data.
RESULTS: Out of 256 students, 232 contributed to the study (%90.6). Only 7.3% of the students were computer illiterate. Two thirds of the students (65.1%) personally owned a computer. Those students using computer spend an average of 6.71±0.49 hours per week in front of the screen, spends an average of 5.39±0.41 hours per week in the Internet and they remain online for an average of 1.41±0.79 hours. Time spent for the Internet usage for professional development/learning is significantly higher among senior students.
