Policy in modern societies and countries is no longer possible without the help of mass media. There are no more cases, as it was in ancient Greece, where citizens can gather in the square (agora) to discuss the decision which should be passed. Policy is now adopted and forwarded through the mass media. Where society organizes and leads to the policy overcome organic and holistic principles of the people, nation, crowd, class, of individual autonomy and sovereignty of citizens, the abolition of its autonomy in the name of some abstract general principles and goals, and face the suspension of democracy and democratic processes and relations in social communities. Democracy exists on fight of different opinions. In general, democracy is in all spheres of social life–both in family and school, as well as in an associations, institutions or companies–needed social climate that supports and enhances public discussion about the different attitudes and opinions. Actions in a democratic system must be based on reasonable arguments subjected to critical public eye. Today, there are no more rules of public policy discussions of interested individuals, but the official standpoint of the government, parties and alliances. Despite this, one must not underestimate the influence of politicians, commentators or other public figures on the formation of public opinion. The issue of media freedom reflects all the complexity of our society and inevitably is connected with the general socio-political and economic situation in the country, so that any progress in this field reflects the strengthening of media freedom and independent journalism.
