There are several materials and medications that could be used in primary molar pulpotomy and the aim of this review was to systematically assess the literature on the evaluation of different types of medicative endodontic materials and compare between them the stability of medicative endodontic materials in the treatment of primary molar pulpotomy. A comprehensive electronic search with time and language restrictions was conducted. Several known databases were searched, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, from the year 2010 to 2020. In this systematic review, 11 studies were included. One study was a retrospective study, two were prospective study, eight were randomized clinical trials, and no case reports or cross-sectional studies were included in this review. This review did not find any significant advantage of one medicative material over another to be used in pulpotomy, except in the advantage of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and biodentine (BD) over calcium hydroxide. However, the use of MTA, BD, and formocresol was recommended over other materials. More discussion and investigations should be carried out to determine the causes of clinical and radiological failure in this process.
Key words: Primary molar pulpotomy, endodontic materials, medicative endodontics, pulpotomy.
