AIM: In this study it was aimed to determine the knowledge and practice of mothers with children aged 0-6 years about fever.
METHOD: The study was designed as a cross-sectional study. This study was applied at GMMF Research and Education Hospital Pediatrics Clinic, in April-May 2012. The study sample contained 150 volunteered mothers with children aged 0-6 years. Questionnaire was developed by researchers following a literature review and consisted of two parts. First part comprised socio-demographic characteristic, knowledge and practices of participants’ about fever. Second part occurred information that consisted of thought and traditional practice mothers when their children have high fever.
RESULTS: Mothers tried to understand high fever. 59.4% (n=89) tried to understand by tapping their children, %30.0 (n=45) did a reading with thermometer. First application of mothers is warm application when they faced fever with their children %52.6 (n=79). %19.3 (n=29) used a drug to reduce the fever, %62 (n=93) mothers believe that fever is an illness. %97.4 (n=146) believe that high fever is the cause of convulsion and %57.3 (n=86) used a drug without doctor permission to reduce the fever.
