Narayana College of Nursing, A STUDY TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE REGARDING ADMISSION PROCESS AMONG FIRST YEAR B.SC. NURSING STUDENTS

Abstract

A patient is the recipient of all the health care services. Admission to a hospital is a stressed
experience for most of people. Apprehension is experienced by the patient when he is hospitalized. Nurses
must have adequate knowledge and competence in the admission process. This teaching has to be started
from the student period onwards. The objectives of the study was to assess the knowledge & practice
regarding admission process among first year B.Sc. nursing students and to correlate the level of knowledge
and practice regarding admission process among first year B.Sc. nursing students. Methodology: Quantitative
approach and descriptive survey method used to collect data from 100 first year B.Sc Nursing students
studying in Narayana College of Nursing, Nellore. Knowledge questionnaire and observational checklist on
admission process was used to collect data. The data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential
statistics. Results: The level of knowledge on admission process among the students revealed that 25%
had A+ grade(excellent knowledge), 60% had A grade(very good knowledge), 10 had B+ grade (good
knowledge), and 5% had B grade(above average knowledge). Regarding the level of practice, 4% had low
practice, 69% had moderate practice and 27% had high practice. There as positive correlation that exists
between the knowledge and practice. Conclusion: The present study revealed that the nursing students
have enough knowledge which helped them to do the admission process in a right way.
