CKD is linked with thyroid dysfunction through various pathways like reduction in Glomerular filtration rate (GFR)⁴ and renal tubular transport capacity,⁵ impacts of the low T3 syndrome (T3 triiodothyronine),⁶ uremic toxin mediated disordered hypothalamic-pituitary function,¹ and impaired renal handling of iodine.⁷ When hypothyroidism becomes severe, it causes reduced heart function which leads to progressively worsening kidney function.⁸
