This study investigates the relationship between the performance of the students and their mode of entrance as well as study the attitude of the student toward Mathematics and pure science subjects. Grade point Average (GPA) of the students of department of Mathematics and Biochemistry, Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero were used as student’s performance. Chi-Square test of independence and t-test for independent samples were used for the analyses. Chi-square was used in solving the problems. The results of the analyses reveal that there is relationship between the performance of the students and their mode of entrance. The results also show that students that came in through Matriculation (pre-degree) programme performed extremely well compared to the UME students and in general, students have favourable attitude toward mathematical subjects than pure science subjects.

Key words: t-test, chi-square test, jamb, DE, GPA, UME
