COMPARATIVE CHEMISTRY FLUX OF WATER AND SEDIMENT IN SHAGARI RESERVOIR, SOKOTO, NIGERIA

Magami, I. M., Balarabe, M. L..

Abstract

Sediment is important in the overall nutrient dynamics of water bodies. Nutrient exchange across the sediment-water interface of Shagari reservoir is an important process affecting the chemical composition and the trophic level, particularly in shallow parts of the reservoir. Comparison of nutrients in sediment and water for a period of one year was conducted. Water and sediment samples were collected monthly from six stations along the lake. Standard laboratory analysis was adopted and result obtained was subjected to statistical analysis at P
