Serum uric acid in patients with ischemic stroke

Abstract

Background and objectives - Serum uric acid is the most abundant and strongest anti-oxidant available in human body. Its role in stroke patients has been controversial. Some studies show, it is protective, some found it deleterious while some found it unrelated to severity or outcome. So we did this study is done to find out the role of serum uric acid in ischemic stroke patients .
Material and method – In a cross sectional observation study, we measured serum uric acid of 109 patients of acute ischemic stroke within 24 hrs of stroke and the data compared with other biochemical parameters , risk factors and severity and outcome of stroke .
Result and conclusion – We found no significant correlation of serum uric acid with risk factors of stroke as well as with severity and outcome of stroke.
