Exopolysaccharides (EPSs) are bioactive natural products used in different applications. A preliminary chemical analysis of EPSMSHN indicated that the monosaccharides were arabinose, xylose, glucose and glucouronic acid with a relative ratio of 1: 1: 2: 1, respectively, with a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 5.50105 g/mol and a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 3.45105 g/mol. INH/RIF increased hepatic and renal functions through decreased hepatic and renal GSH and increasing MDA contents that associated with hepatocellular apoptosis as well as degeneration and fibrosis in many of tubules. The treatment with EPS at different doses (50 and 100 mg/kg) corrected all previously mentioned INH/RFP-induced changes. In conclusion, EPSMSHN at both doses protected the hepatic and renal toxicity induced by INH/RFP through its antioxidant, antiapoptotic and antifibrotic influence.
Key words: Exopolysaccaride, Bacillus sp., isoniazid/rifampicin, hepatic and renal toxicity.
