Abstract
Stuttering is defined as the disturbance in timing and fluency of the speech inappropriate with the age. Pathophysiology of stuttering is not certain. Some published studies show that, stuttering is related with increased number of D2 receptors at basal ganglia. Also %50-200 increased number of dopaminergic activity found at stuttering cases in comparison to the control group. Stuttering as a side-effect of psychotropic medication is rare. In literature only a few number of stuttering cases due to affects of antipsychotics like chlorpromazine, clozapine, olanzapine, risperidone, trifluperazine are reported. Olanzapine is also used to treat the symptoms of stuttering by D2 receptor antagonism and in literature there are cases which were treated by administration of olanzapine. In this case we present a case of olanzapine induced stuttering. It is important that this case shows us despite olanzapine may be used in treatment of stuttering, it may also cause stuttering as an adverse effect.
