ACUTE DYSTONIA CAUSED BY CLOMIPRAMINE: A CASE REPORT

Sema Baykara, Fatih Muhammed Tabara, Sevda Korkmaz, Murad Atmaca.

Abstract

Drug-induced acute dystonia is a disorder of motion that occurs most often with neuroleptics, though there are many drugs in etiology. The primary cause of acute dystonia is thought to be dopaminergic neurotransmitter blockade. Clomipramine is a potent drug that theoretically predicts to cause acute dystonia because of dopamine blockade. The number of cases with acute dystonia during clomipramine use is rare. We wished to draw attention to this rare side effect of cloipramine and to contribute to the literatüre by presenting a case of acute dystonia on the 5th day of clomipramine treatment in a 19-year-old male patient.

Key words: Clomipramine, Antidepressant, Dystonia
