This case study explores the fatal consequences of a misdiagnosed hemoparasitic infection in a three-month-old calf, underlining the limitations in field-level diagnostic infrastructure. Based only on clinical symptoms, the case was first misdiagnosed as a single Theileria sp. infection; however, laboratory testing revealed that it really involved a co-infection with Anaplasma sp. The death of the calf as a result of a symptom based treatment plan highlights the critical need for strong, easily accessible diagnostic platforms in rural veterinary practice and demonstrates the significant impact that diagnostic gaps have on livestock health. The economic and epidemiological significance of hemoparasitic diseases in cattle, which together result in significant losses in dairy and meat productivity throughout endemic regions, is also defined in the study.
