In the context high maternal mortality and rich untapped stock of knowledge on Garbhini paricharya, this paper develops a composite framework for Antenatal Care (ANC) based on Ayurveda and Modern medical systems. Classical and modern literature, published works as obtained from the access to AYUSH portal and Pub Med were consulted for the purpose. The analysis is presented in a comparative fashion for important stages of pregnancy for important components like diet, life style and treatment. Based on this analysis, a model framework is prepared combining the essential elements from both the systems.
The essence of the model lies in the adoption of preventive measures on the basis of symptoms and signs of dietetic regime, lifestyle and Jeevaneeya drug therapy (Herbal) from Ayurveda and the diagnostic techniques and emergency services from the Modern medical science. This will improve the quality of care in pregnancy and facilitates its better utilisation as it combines the best of Tradition and Modern.
Key words: Composite Framework of ANC, Ahara, Vihara, Oushadha, Quality.
