Aim: The aim of this study is to adapt the Grief and Meaning Reconstruction Inventory (GMRI) to Turkish. Method: Three hundred six adults who lost their parents, spouse or siblings due to death in time between past 6 months and 10 years were included in the study. The participants were asked to complete a questionnaire set including Grief and Meaning Reconstruction Questionnaire (GMRI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and a demographic information form which was generated by the researchers. Results: The Explanatory Factor Analysis (AFA) showed that Turkish form of the GMRI consists of 27 items and 4 subscales. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) also supported this factor and item structure. In addition, the Cronbach alpha values of the Turkish form of GMRI were found to be similar to the original scale. The correlation analyzes showed that GMRI scores were strongly negative correlated with both depressive symptoms and anxiety symptoms. In addition, after controlling for the time elapsed since the loss, age of bereaved, education level of bereaved, and age of the death person, GMRI scores were found as significant negative predictor of BDI and STAI scores. Conclusion: This study showed that Turkish version of the GMRI can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool in our culture.
