Medical Tourism In India

Dr. Vijaya Mohan Reddy, Chief Executive Officer Dr. B.V. Subrahmanyam, Medico Legal Advisor.

Abstract

Medical tourism refers to patients travelling to a country other than their own to obtain
medical treatment. Earlier most often, the patients travelled from less developed countries to
an advanced major medical centre located in a developed country for the treatment as the
advanced and the sophisticated facilities were not available in their own native country (1).
Now there is reversal of trend as far as medical tourism is concerned. Nowadays, some of the
developing countries are able to provide the excellent health care facilities at par with the well
developed countries at a lower price attracting patients from each nook and corner of the
world including from the well developed countries for various reasons. In this article various
aspects of the medical tourism are discussed in detail.

Key words: Medical Tourism; Developing Country; Developed Country, India.
