Introduction: One of the greatest challenges faced by the modern world is Diabetes mellitus (DM). Physical, social and economic factors involved in
the management of diabetes mellitus are a continuous strain for the health sector and the government agencies. It is expected that approximately 366 million people will be affected by Diabetes mellitus by the year 2030. The present study was carried out with the objectives to assess the knowledge regarding self administration of insulin administration among diabetic patients ,To find out the association between the knowledge regarding self administration of insulin injection in diabetic patients with selected demographic variables. To develop an instructional module regarding self administration of insulin injection. Materials and methods: The research design selected for the study was non interventional descriptive design. Sixty diabetic patients under self administration were considered as a sample for the study. Study was conducted at General Hospital at Hassan, Bangalore. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect the sample. The instrument used for the study was structured interview schedule. Results: The results show the overall knowledge of the diabetic patients regarding self administration of insulin injection. Among them 63.4% diabetic patients possess moderate knowledge, 31.6% had inadequate knowledge and only 5% diabetic patients had adequate knowledge regarding self-administration of insulin injection. Conclusion: Education is likely to be effective if we know the level of knowledge of patients and hence the following instructions, practicing skill on self administration of insulin. Patient outcomes are largely based on the decision they make on self - management. Hence it is paramount importance, that people with diabetes receive ongoing, high quality diabetic education that is tailored to their needs and delivered by skilled health care provider.
