Prevalence of depression among senior citizen of Lahore, Pakistan

Abstract
Objective: To determine prevalence of depression among the senior citizens of Lahore, Pakistan.
Methodology: Beck depression inventory questionnaire was used to find the burnout level of depression among senior citizens of Lahore, Pakistan. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 23.0.
Results: Data were collected from 217 senior citizens including 135(62.5%) males and 82 females (37.8%). Out of 217, 10 (4.6%) had no depression, 22(10.1%) had mild depression, 18 (8.2%) had borderline depression, 83(38.2%) had moderate depression, 79(36.4%) had severe depression and 5(2.3%) had extreme depression.
Conclusion: There was high prevalence of moderate and severe depression in senior citizens. The study showed importance of good mental condition especially in this population that might be achieved by supportive role of family and society.
