Objective: To determine the frequency of perinatal outcome in late preterm birth at tertiary care facility
Methodology: This cross section study was conducted at department of obstetrics and Gynaecology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Pakistan from 15 December 2012 to 14 December 2013. A total of 176 women who delivered 34 and 36 weeks of gestation were included in the study. Patients were evaluated by detailed history about gestational age, dating scan upto 20 weeks, and perinatal outcomes of late preterm birth were recorded.
Results: The average age of the patients was 27.81±3.98 years. The commonest perinatal outcome was feeding difficulty (31.8%), followed by respiratory distress syndrome (29%), hypoglycemia (17.6%), hypothermia (10.8%), apnea (9.1%) and perinatal mortality (4%).
Conclusion: The risk of neonatal complications in late preterm births remains higher compared with infants delivered at 3740 weeks of gestation.
