Tragic result of traditional hand pain control methods: Burns

Abstract
Thermal burns often occured accidentally and patients rarely can tolerate the heated materials. In this report, two cases where the patients put heated materials on their hands in order to relieve their hand pain as a traditional method were presented. A 54-year-old female, who was otherwise a healthy patient had a wrist burn due to the hot melted tar which she had used to relieve her carpal tunnel pain and a 13-year-old female patient was admitted with a finger burn, due to a hot onion in order to relieve her paronychia. Thermal burns are rarely self-inflicted. These traditional pain control methods caused serious burns. The patients detailed medical history and other medical conditions underneath the hand burn should be revealed.
