Some Characteristics of Life Pattern and the Problems to Come Across while Working in the Asistants to Specialize in Erciyes University Medical Faculty Hospital

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate some characteristics of life pattern and the problems to come across while working in the assistants to specialize in Erciyes University medical faculty hospital.
METHODS: At May 2005 all of 300 assistants were aimed to be reached, but 130 of them accepted to take part in the study. Questionnaire was performed face to face. Data were processed by computer and chi square test was used in statistical analyses.
RESULTS: In the study group 34.6% sleep regular, 33.1% have regular breakfast. 72.2% stay on duty at different frequencies. 13.1%of assistants were exposed to violence. Exposing violence is higher at internal medicine unit assistants and it’s founded statistically significant. 27.7% of assistants never attended a scientific congress or symposium. 81.2% of assistants working at basic medicine, 64.6% of assistants working at internal medicine and 64.6%of assistants working at medical surgery units have anxiety about future. Assistants want to have education at foreign languages (77.7%), computer (64.6%), statistics and scientific research techniques (64.6%). Major problems mentioned about job environment are, 20% low income, 17.6% workload and 15.3% staff shortage.
CONCLUSION: Raising quality of life, decreasing workload and raising income will make assistants efficient working. Furthermore in-service training programs must be managed for requirement specified subjects.
