Role of laparoscopy in post ERCP duodenal perforation: a case report

Kishwar Ali, Humera Latif, Aurangzeb Khan.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal perforations are one of complications of ERCP, which if diagnosed and treated in time, can decrease the mortality and morbidity related to this procedure. We present a case of post ERCP type II ampullary leak that had sealed spontaneously by the time her diagnostic laparoscopy was performed. Injury of any severity can be dealt with by expert hands using laparoscopy and in small sealed perforations, laparotomy can be avoided.

Key words: ERCP Duodenal perforation Laparoscopy Acute abdomen Pneumoperitoneum Common bile duct stones Laparotomy
