EPIDEMIOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS ON CRYPTOSPORIDIUM INFECTION IN ASYMPTOMATIC GOATS IN KEBBI STATE

Abstract

Cryptosporidium infection remains a significant cause of zoonotic diarrhea disease prevalent in many livestock farms in sub-Saharan Africa, but its epidemiological data among ruminants are not sufficiently reported. This study assessed the distribution of the parasite load in asymptomatic goats in four sampling locations (Argungu, Gwandu, Yauri and Zuru). Fecal specimens were collected and analysed using modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining technique and microscopy. A total of 450 goats were examined.
