The Potential Impact of magnetically treated water on the performance of Baladi goats

Abstract

The current study was conducted to investigate the effects of magnetic treated water (MTW) on performance of adult male Baladi goats. Goats were classified into two groups. The first group (control group, N=5) received clean fresh tap water during the entire experimental period, while goats of the experimental group (MTW group, N=10) received magnetized water. Animals in both groups were clinically healthy as approved by complete thorough clinical examination before submission to the experiment and had similar body weights and ages. Moreover, animals received the same daily ration during entire the experimental period. Whole blood, serum as well as ruminal samples were collected from all goats in both groups on days zero, 30 and 60 of the experiment. Improved water quality has been observed to improve nutrient digestibility, dry matter intake and consequently live weight gain of goats. Hemogram of examined goats, revealed significant improvement in values of total erythrocytic, leukocytic and platelets count with non-significantly improved hemoglobin concentration in MTW group. The total serum proteins, albumin, total globulins, sodium, calcium and phosphorous levels were significantly increased in MTW group than its level in healthy control goats. On contrary the mean values of, AST, ALT, total bilirubin, BUN and creatinine were significantly reduced in MTW group. While non-significant changes were observed in chloride and magnesium levels. Additionally, the process of ruminal fermentation was also improved in goats received MTW as reflected in lowered ruminal PH, increased ruminal total microbial count (TMC), rumen ciliated protozoa (RCPr.), increased methylene blue reduction time (MBRT) with non- significantly improved total volatile fatty acids (TVFAs). Oxidant-antioxidant status showed a significant reduction in the levels of malondialdehyde with significantly elevated serum activity of total antioxidant capacity in MTW group. It can be concluded that exposure of water to magnetization changed both its physical and chemical properties as well as having a favorable effect on performance of goats with efficient antioxidant system.
