Health Promotion Behaviors and Related Factors of High School Students in Şanlıurfa

Abstract

AIM: In this study, it was aimed to determine health promotion behaviors and related factors of high school students in Şanlıurfa.
METHOD: In this cross-sectional epidemiological study, we planned to reach 1023 students at 95% confidence level and all students were reached. Data were collected by using 'Socio-Demographic Data Form', 'Healthy Life Style Behavior (SYBD) Scale' and 'Health Locus of Control Scale ".
RESULTS: Of 1023 students participated in the research, 65% were male and mean age was 16.06±1.2. It was found that the mean score of students for Healthy Life Style Behavior (SYBD) Scale was 118.4 ± 20.0. Subscale scores of adolescents by dividing the number of items were examined, the highest 'self realization' and 'interpersonal support', the lowest 'health responsibility' and 'exercise' subscales were scored. In multiple regression analysis, The students' gender, being male, studying at Anatolia-science high school, living in a nuclear family, having literate mother, being healthy, by itself able to go to the doctor when ill, participating in social activities outside school, and internal - external control locus of the healthy lifestyle was found to be associated with the healthy lifestyle behavior (p
