The Impact of the World Turkish Business Council on the Transformatıon of the Turkish Diaspora from Migration to Power

Abstract

Diaspora is a concept that is used to name human communities living outside their homeland or homeland and dates back to ancient times. The concept of diaspora, which was previously identified with communities such as Jews and Armenians and had a pejorative meaning, has expanded its factual content by including concepts such as "Immigrant", "Refugee", "Guest Worker", "Overseas Community", "Ethnic Community". The phenomenon of migration, which has increased with the effect of globalization, has changed the use and nature of the concept of diaspora. Today, people do not leave their homeland only as a result of necessity and exile; It migrates as a result of its own preferences due to reasons such as wars, economic reasons, and the desire for a better life and develops qualitatively. The Turkish diaspora, which is the subject of this research, is a great power element spread to various countries of the world. It is thought that the Turkish diaspora, which has developed and transformed in number and quality, will play an even more important role for the whole world in the future. The aim of this research is to discuss the concept of "Diaspora" with its various aspects and changes over time and to discuss the transformation of the Turkish diaspora from migration to power from the perspective of the World Turkish Business Council (DTİK). Based on the motto of "Strong Turkey, Strong Diaspora", the activities carried out by the World Turkish Business Council in order to activate the sustainable diaspora strategy designed in cooperation with the public and private sectors are discussed within the scope of this research. In this context, it is aimed to evaluate the mission and effectiveness of the World Turkish Business Council, and the studies carried out by the World Turkish Business Council in order to make the Turkish diaspora a soft power element in the countries where they live are investigated. While preparing the research, literature review method was used as a qualitative data collection method. In the light of the information obtained, it has been concluded that DTİK is a very effective platform in terms of strengthening the Turkish diaspora.
