Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the awareness and knowledge of diabetic foot prevention among the general population in the Al-Qunfudah region of Western Saudi Arabia.
Methods: A cross-sectional study involving adults aged 18 years and older from the Al-Qunfudah region was conducted using a validated Arabic patient health questionnaire for data collection.
Results: The study included 471 participants (60.5% male) with an average age of 31.2 ± 11.9 years. Awareness of diabetic foot prevention measures was high, with 328 participants (69.6%) demonstrating sufficient knowledge. Notably, 93.2% recognized the need for a professional assessment of foot issues, and 73.7% disagreed with managing diabetes independently. Older participants (41-50 years) showed increased awareness, as did those with a family history of diabetes.
Conclusion: Participants in the Al-Qunfudah region displayed an acceptable level of knowledge about diabetic foot complications and prevention methods. Enhanced awareness programs are recommended to improve preventive strategies.

Key words: Awareness, prevention, diabetic patients, diabetic foot, Saudi Arabia
