Abstract
In India, mother to child transmission is by far the most significant route of transmission of HIV infection in children below 15 years. Without
interventions, the risk of transmission from infected mother to her child ranges from 15-25% in developed countries and 25-45% in developing
countries.Mothers may transmit HIV to infants during pregnancy, labour, delivery or through breast feeding. For the well being of the mother and child, it is beneficial for both parents to participate in PPTCT programme.
