Despite the provision of parking facilities by the government, it is observed that trucks are still parked along the road, causing increasing rise to a lot of problems associated with roadside parking such as highway congestion, high rate of accidents, frequent tanker explosions, sanitation problems and the destruction and defacing of highway shoulders. This study seeks to x-ray some fundamental issues associated with truck parking including the capacity of the parking facility, rate of occupancy, and level of usage (reasons why drivers need to park, factors that influence parking demand, relevant regulations and Hour of Service (HOS)). Data was sourced from both primary (field study: visit to the study area, data on daily usage and design capacity) and secondary (existing literature, Government reports and allied documents) sources. This study concludes that the parking facility does not have all the features of a standard parking facility and therefore recommends the improvement of the facility so as to increase convenience for drivers while the different tiers of government in Nigeria also, should evolve policies encouraging public-private partnership investment in such projects as a strategy to rapidly deploy these facilities across the major highways in the country.
