Serum uric acid and its relation to adenosine deaminase, lipid profile and oxidative stress in Diabetes Mellitus type 2

Abstract

Aim/Background: Serum uric acid is an end product of purine catabolism. The relationship between the serum uric acid adenosine deaminase, lipid profile and oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes mellitus was studied to evaluate its role as one of the risk factor for coronary artery disease. Methods: The serum uric acid level in type 2 diabetes mellitus was compared with controls. The correlation between serum uric acid with adenosine deaminase (ADA), parameters of oxidative stress and serum lipids was also evaluated.
