Prevalent and risk factors of depression among Saudi medical residents in the Tabuk City, Saudi Arabia

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the extent of depression in the training environment by determining the prevalence and identifying risk factors among medical residents in hospitals located in Tabuk City.
Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 78 medical residents affiliated with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties across three major hospitals in Tabuk City. Depression was assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire 9.
Results: Among the participants, the prevalence of depression varied as follows; 36% reported minimal depression, 36% reported mild depression, 12% reported moderate depression, 10% reported moderately severe depression, and 6% reported severe depression.
