Objective: To explore the association of hemoglobin level with nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in young healthy adults.
Methodology: The study employed a cross sectional design and was conducted at the Physiology department of the Federal Medical College, Islamabad, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad, Pakistan from June 2023 to December 2023. Nonprobability convenience sampling was employed. Medical students with age range of 15 to 25 years were included in the study. Exclusion criteria involved age outside the range and comorbidities like hypertension, anxiety etc. A total of 134 participants were included. Blood samples were collected, and hemoglobin was measured on automatic analyzer Sysmex XN550 by electrical impedance method. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26,
Results: Most participants were female (75.4%). Mean age was 19.65±1.10 years (range 8-20). Mean hemoglobin level was 12.54±1.90 mg/dl, and mean NCV was 69.73±19.99 m/s. The Pearson correlation coefficient between hemoglobin and NCV was 0.903, indicating a strong positive correlation (p
