Abstract
Objective: To investigate the therapeutic potential of Glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) in managing diabetic retinopathy (DR) by exploring its neuroprotective effects on retinal cells and its ability to mitigate disease progression.
Methodology: This study involved 150 subjects (68 male, 82 female) including 34 healthy controls and 116 patients with DR, enrolled from OPDs and clinical care settings with mean age of 53±6.7 years. Plasma samples were subjected to Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay for the determination of GDNF levels. HbA1c (%) and Fasting Glucose levels (mmol/L) were used as confounders.
